What to bring to a metric design session

Arrive with a short product narrative: who the first users are, what success looks like in ninety days, and which decisions are blocked by missing measurement. Screenshots of current dashboards help even when those dashboards feel embarrassing.

Bring one product owner and one technical contact who can speak to instrumentation constraints. Without engineering in the room, metric definitions often assume properties that cannot be captured on device.

Leave vanity charts at the door. Session time is better spent agreeing on activation, retention, and one business outcome than debating colour themes on a report.
